Péter Kutas, an associate professor at the department, was awarded the MTA Bolyai Plaquette on September 16 at the Bolyai Day 2026 ceremony. This prestigious honor is bestowed upon the most outstanding Bolyai scholarship researchers. Congratulations!

During his Bolyai scholarship, Péter Kutas worked on the development and security analysis of isogeny-based cryptographic protocols, using algebraic and number-theoretic methods. His most notable results are the generalization of the Kohel–Lauter–Petit–Tignol algorithm to Abelian surfaces, quantum cryptanalysis via non-commutative hidden subgroup problems, and the construction of novel cryptographic group actions.
